This results in a depression or more commonly referred to as dimple when smiling or animating the face. Although dimples occur naturally, our experienced Revitalize U surgeons can help create dimples for you if you were not born with them. The Dimpleplasty Procedure

There are two main methods to create dimples, a stitch method and a surgical method. In the stitch method, a suture placed through the mouth anchors the back side of the skin on the face, creating a dimple. This is a method that allows quick healing. With this method the dimple is more static and does not deepen with animation and flatten with rest. In the surgical method, a defect is created in the facial muscles, more closely mimicking a naturally occurring dimple. This method creates a dimple that is dynamic, deepening with smiling and flattening with rest. Our board-certified surgeons can help you determine which method is right for you.

During the surgical method of dimple creation, a surgical defect is created inside of the mouth. Dissolvable sutures are used through all layers of the facial soft tissue to create the dimple. The dimple will appear very prominent initially, but a it heals the sutures will dissolve and the new dimple will flatten, deepening with smiling. With the stitch method of dimple creation, a small incision is placed inside of the mouth where a suture is placed to create the new dimple. Local anesthesia is typically used during the procedure although it may also be performed under IV sedation.
